Always Sunny in Subic, Philippines

Subic is close to my heart.  It is the quick getaway for us couple when we want to enjoy the weekend or holidays or summer vacations.  Whenever we take trip to Zambales, we find joy knowing we will see Subic every time.  It’s always sunny when we take a trip there.

From the South Luzon Expressway, we usually pass through C5 to Mindanao Exit.  Then we traverse North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and drive north to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).  From there we continue until we reach Tipo exit. SCTEX usually takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on the speed.  With it’s length of 97.33 km, SCTEX is the longest expressway in the Philippines.

Motorist should mind their speed in SCTEX as over speeding is penalized here.  Driver’s license of the motorist will be confiscated and can only be claimed after 3 days from Land Transportation Office that will be advised by the police who performed the apprehension.

There are portalets in SCTEX but I suggest you wait until you reach Subic for decent restrooms or take your break in one of the NLEX’s  fuel stations.

Upon reaching Subic Bay Metropolitan Area (SBMA), we usually stop over at Jollibee for a quick meal.  Sometimes we  drop by Meat Plus Cafe to enjoy steak or burger or pasta.  We also sometimes stay in Magic Lagoon for a Filipino meal.  By the way, there’s a Total gas station near Magic Lagoon.

Word of caution, traffic system is very, very strict in Subic Bay Metropolitan Area (SBMA). Please follow the “first stop, first to go” system when crossing intersections. Do not make U-turns on points marked with “No U-turn” signs.  Give way to pedestrians and do not over speed.  Officers are posted in every corner ready to apprehend violators.

While inside SBMA, if you have the time, you can stop by the Subic Bay Yacht Club to view the yachts lined up in the port.  This view is one of my personal favorites.

Subic Bay is a tax and freeport zone where you can shop imported goods either from Royal Duty Free, Subic Freeport Exchange or Puregold Duty Free to name a few.  Gas is also cheaper in Subic Bay so you plan your travel to refuel when you stop here.
